Introduction: The Rosa L. Parks Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization, has dedicated itself to helping students, who hold close to the ideals of Mrs. Parks, achieve their goals and overcome adversity through the support of higher education. Since it was founded by The Detroit News and Detroit Public Schools in 1980, The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $1,500,000 in scholarship money to more than 750 high school seniors. Recipients of the $2,000, non-renewable scholarship are chosen for their outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership, and commitment to the principles embraced by Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement.

Eastern Michigan University - First Scholarships

Introduction: FIRST and Eastern Michigan University have partnered to offer scholarships to high schoolseniors who have participated on a FIRST team during their junior or senior year.University scholarships are competitive and are awarded based on available funding. Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not ensure students will receive an award. Students may receive no more than one of the following scholarships: Presidential, Regents-Gold, Regents, Recognition of Excellence or Eagle.

Eligibility: High school seniors who have participated in at least one full season during their junior or senior year on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team or a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team and who meet the eligibility criteria below will be offered one of the following scholarships:

Regents Scholarship: $3,000 per year for four years
1.Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.70 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
2.Have a minimum 25 ACT or 1150 SAT
3.Renewal criteria requires a 3.50 EMU GPA

Recognition of Excellence Scholarship: $2,000 per year for four years
1.Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
2.Have a minimum 21 ACT or 1000 SAT
3.Renewal criteria requires a 3.30 EMU GPA

Eagle Scholarship: $1,500 per year for four years
1.Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
2.Have a minimum 20 ACT or 950 SAT
3.Renewal criteria requires a 3.0 EMU GPA
Any student, who already has been offered one of the above scholarships or who didn’t qualify but has a minimum high school GPA of 2.50, will be awarded a one-year Leader Award for $1,000.

Ford Motor Company Endowed Scholarships 2009-10

Introduction: In 1983, Ford Motor Company entered into a Conciliation Agreement resolving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC’s) 1973 charge of discrimination against Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers. The provision of the agreement endowed specifi ed colleges and universities with funds to be used to provide scholarships in perpetuity for minority and female employees of Ford Motor Company and their eligible spouses and offspring. Under Ford Motor Company’s educational endowment and grants program, scholarship funds are made available annually to meet their designated purpose.

Eligibility:  1. The Ford Motor Company Endowed Scholarship was created to fund, on a perpetual basis, a limited number of scholarships for women and minorities (individuals who are Native American/Alaskan, Asian or Pacifi c Islander, African American/Black, or Hispanic/Latino). 2. Preference is given to: a)Minority and female employees of Ford Motor Company. b)Minority and female children of Ford Motor Company employees. c)Minority and female spouses of Ford Motor Company employees .3. Scholarship applicants must base their application on their relationship to a permanent, active, full-time employee of Ford Motor Company. Applicants should not base their application on their relationship to a temporary or retired employee or intern. To apply, complete and submit the application on the next page. 4. Complete applications must include a copy of a recent pay stub or a letter from the Human Resources department at Ford Motor Company confi rming employment. 5. These scholarships are not need-based and may be awarded to only one member of a family with an established relationship with a Ford Motor Company employee. 6. Scholarships are awarded to students who will be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program on the Ann Arbor campus during the 2009-2010 academic year. 7. If the applicant is an entering transfer student, complete academic transcripts showing all college-level course work must be provided.

MS Graduate Research Assistantship - Biology Department Scholarships 2009

Introduction: MS Graduate Research Assistantship — Insular lake biogeography using unionids and fish. Biology Department, Central Michigan University,  Mount Pleasant, MI.

Eligibility:  1.The successful applicant should be highly motivated and have a B.S. in fisheries, ecology, biology, zoology or closely  related field and should be able to work independently in the field and lab. I also will give special consideration to students with  previous lab experience using microsatellites DNA, PCR, genotyping. 2. Field experience, such as experience with boats lake sampling, identification of unionid mussels, fisheries, aquatic invertebrates also is desirable. Minimum academic qualifications include 3.0 GPA (on  a 4.0 system), GRE scores must be sent to CMU graduate school for approval. Introduction: Wayne State University has teamed up with the First Robotics Competition to honor 3 qualified students with a 4-year Presidential Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship will enable these 3 recipients to pursue majors and careers in the field of engineering at Wayne State University. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants will establish that they participated in the FIRST Detroit Regional Competition (held at WSU) and while doing so, that they received valuable knowledge, technical and life skills. This four-year scholarship will provide each recipient full tuition and immediate acceptance into the prestigious Wayne State University Honors Program.

Introduction: The AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students program ensures that CPAs of diverse backgrounds are visible in college and university classrooms to serve as role models and mentors to young people in planning their education and careers.  These competitive, renewable fellowships of up to $12,000 are awarded annually to full-time minority accounting scholars who demonstrate significant potential to become accounting educators. For the 2008–2009 academic year, 22 accounting Ph.D.s were selected as recipients of this prestigious honor

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:
Applied to and/or been accepted into a doctoral program with a concentration in accounting.
Earned a Master’s Degree and/or completed at least 3 years of full-time experience in the accounting practice.
Be a minority student or Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; or Native American.
Attend school on a full-time basis and remain enrolled full-time until attaining one’s doctoral degree.
Agree not to work full-time in a paid position or accept responsibility for teaching more than one course per semester as a teaching assistant, or dedicate more than one quarter of my time as a research assistant.
Be a CPA or plan to pursue the CPA credential.
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

John L. Carey Scholarship Scholarships

Introduction: The AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship program provides financial assistance to liberal arts degree holders pursuing graduate studies in accounting and the CPA designation. These awards are intended to encourage students with little or no previous accounting education to consider professional accounting careers.

Eligibility: 1.I will have obtained a liberal arts or other non-business related undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States prior to enrolling in my graduate accounting program.2.I did not earn more than 12 credits in accounting or business during my undergraduate program.3.I have been accepted into, or am in the process of applying to, a graduate program in accounting that is accredited by AACSB International or ACBSP. This program will enable me to sit for the CPA Examination.4.I will be a full-time graduate (9 semester hours or equivalent) student for academic year 2009 - 2010.5.I am a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Selection Process: A task force will review all qualified applications and select five scholarship recipients based on demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership and future career interests in accounting and business. All applicants will be notified
of the final selection by August 1, 2009.
