AFCEA College / University Working Professional Scholarships 2009

Introduction: The AFCEA Scholarship for Working Professionals will provide $2,000 to those students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree while employed in the science or technology disciplines directly related to the mission of AFCEA. Undergraduate candidates must be at least second-year students attending an accredited college or university in the United States. Graduate students must have completed at least two postgraduate-level classes prior to the deadline date.
The scholarship is intended for students attending school on a part-time basis, whether at a two-year community college or accredited university institution. Part-time status will be defined as enrollment in at least two classes (semester-equivalent) with a declared major in a science or technology degree program.

Eligibility: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, attending an accredited college or university in the United States as either a traditional or distance-learning student, and majoring in electrical, chemical, systems or aerospace engineering; mathematics; physics; technical management; computer information systems; computer science or related fields.
Undergraduate applications will be accepted from sophomore, junior and senior students - minimum second-year students please. An overall GPA of 3.0 is required.
Graduate applications will be accepted from students who have completed at least two postgraduate-level courses and are enrolled in an eligible degree-granting master’s degree program

How to Apply: Please Note: At least two letters of recommendation are required
1.One letter must be from a faculty member in your chosen major having personal knowledge of your degree program, achievements and potential. Letter must be printed on school stationery and signed.
2.One letter must be from current employer or relevant current public service agency, printed on official letterhead and signed by appropriate supervisor.

Norfolk State University - BAE Systems First Scholarships

Norfolk State University - BAE Systems FIRST Scholarships

Introduction: The NSU-BAE Systems FIRST Scholarship is available to students who have been involved in the FIRST FRC or FTC programs, and who have completed an application for entry into any of the undergraduate Computer Science or Engineering programs at Norfolk State University. The scholarship is $2500/year,renewable for four years.

Eligibility:  A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 is required for eligibility. For entering freshmen, the student’s official application materials will be reviewed to verify GPA and financial need information.

How to Apply:  On a separate sheet, please provide a 400 – 600 word essay describing your length of service and contributions that you made to your FRC and/or FTC team(s), and the impact, if any, that your experience in FIRST has had on your career goals and plans.

Please ask a FIRST mentor or team coach to submit a reference letter commenting on the following: 1.Length of service and contributions to the FRC or FTC team; 2.How well does the applicant embody the FIRST core value of gracious professionalism.

Introduction:  The Virginia International University Scholarship Program is designed to provide encouragement and public recognition to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. The program is supported by generous contributions from individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations. Scholarships range from $500 to $7,400 per year. The primary criterion for awards from the University Scholarship Program is outstanding performance. Financial need is another important consideration. Your accurate completion of the scholarship application form will ensure your consideration for every scholarship for which you qualify.

Eligibility:  Any incoming freshman, undergraduate, or graduate student- including international students, planning to attend Virginia International University full-time in a degree program, whether entering or continuing- is eligible if the scholarship requirements as stated below are met. Eligibility and fulfillment of scholarship criteria do not guarantee the award of a scholarship. Scholarship selection is made by the committee based on a variety of other factors, such as academic merit, financial need, and award quota, depending on the scholarship.

How to Apply:  The completed application package must be postmarked on or before May 31 of the application year to be considered with the following Fall semester. Students who granted an award must also re-apply every year before May 31 for the approval of continuation his/her scholarship award. Awards for the succeeding school year will be announced by June 15. For students on or near the campus, a scholarship application packet may be obtained from the Dean of Students. Most students will find it convenient to download a copy of the application* from our Web site. NSF Graduate Research Fellows Nordic Research Opportunity

INTRODUCTION:
A supplemental award for NSF Graduate Research Fellows (GRFs) to enable Fellows to gain international research experience and establish collaborations with counterparts at Norwegian or Finnish research institutions. Through a pilot collaboration, the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Research Council of Norway (RCN), and the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (TEKES) will support on a competitive basis research visits of between two and twelve months to Norway, or between three and twelve months to Finland, respectively. This international research opportunity is intended to enrich the GRF experience by exposing Fellows to leading Nordic scientists and institutions, thus enabling them to develop early-career collaborations with European research partners. Results are expected to expand opportunities for innovation and add an international dimension to GRF research projects.
Fields: Fields of fundamental science and engineering.

ELIGIBILITY:
-The Nordic Research Opportunity is open to all NSF Graduate Research Fellows who will be active Fellows (on tenure or reserve) during the period of time proposed for the research activity in Norway or Finland.

HOW TO APPLY:
Applications for supplemental funding to the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Nordic Research Opportunity are submitted via FastLane as a request for a supplement to the graduate institution’s current GRFP award. Fellow access to FastLane (not the GRFP portion of FastLane) to upload text or complete sections of the proposal module may require the assistance of the GRFP Coordinating Official (CO), the student’s faculty advisor, or the Office of Sponsored Projects at the institution.

The Graduate Fellow must be included as a non Co-PI Senior Personnel on the supplement request. The request must include the following elements:
1. Project Summary. A one page summary addressing the Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts of the work to be accomplished in the time period proposed for study and research in Norway or Finland.
2. Project Description. Limit: 5 pages. A concise, substantive summary of the proposed plan for research and general interaction between the Fellow and the proposed Nordic partners, including justification for the length of the proposed time period for the visit, and the expected scientific/engineering and mutual international benefits to be derived from the project.
The Project Description must include: the research objectives and methodology of the proposed project, the rationale for selection of the host scientist and institution in Norway or Finland, and details of the proposed collaboration. The Description must address the expected impact on the research career of the Fellow. The proposed start date and duration of the visit must be included and supported by the proposed plan for research and the description of the role of the foreign institution/country in the graduate student’s thesis and career objectives. A plan for dissemination of the results is also required, as is a description of the Broader Impacts of the proposed work. VSGC / NASA Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program

INTRODUCTION :

The VSGC Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $8,500 to rising juniors and seniors who are enrolled full-time in a program of study in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance. This is a competivite scholarship program, funded by NASA and the Commonwealth of Virginia contributions.

ELIGIBILITY :

  • Undergraduate students enrolled in a program of full-time study at one of the five Virginia Space Grant universities.
  • Students must be U.S. citizens and either a junior or senior at time of the award (Fall 2009).
  • Underrepresented minorities, females, and persons with disabilities in STEM-related careers are eligible
