Introduction: The Sedano’s Family First Generation Scholarship at Florida International University (FIU) is open to all FIU undergraduate students with preference given to employees and immediate family members of the following companies:Sedano’s Supermarkets, Sedano’s Pharmacies and Discount Stores, and/or U.S. Century Bank.
Eligibility:
1.A legal resident of the State of Florida (U.S. citizen or permanent resident) who is eligible for Florida resident tuition.
2.An undergraduate student currently attending FIU or an individual who has applied for admission to FIU an undergraduate student. If an individual has applied for admission, he or she must be accepted in order to qualify for the scholarship. Each applicant must be an undergraduate degree-seeking student and be enrolled for at least six credit hours per term at FIU.
3.An individual with demonstrated financial need. Each applicant must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA). FIU will determine eligibility based on the FAFSA.
4.An individual whose parents DID NOT earn a bachelor’s degree.
5.A cumulative grade point average at FIU of 2.5 or higher, or, if an entering student, 3.0 or higher in high school or any previous college(s) attended.
How to Apply:
1.A completed FAFSA. FAFSA forms can be completed and submitted completely online at FAFSA.ed.gov. File the FAFSA separately from the materials below, to the address indicated on the FAFSA web site. You should file the FAFSA at least eight weeks prior to the scholarship deadline.
2.FIU 2009-2010 Application for University Wide Scholarship. Beginning in March 2009 you will have access to the application via my.FIU.edu student portal. Please also visit the University Wide Scholarship website,scholarships.fiu.edu for more details.
3.A completed Application and Eligibility Certification Form for the Sedano’s Family First Generation Scholarship(see accompanying form). This application must be signed and dated by (1) the applicant; (2) the qualifying employee,if different from the applicant; and (3) the appropriate manager at Sedano’s (or any other preferred company listed above) who will attest that the applicant meets the criteria for inclusion.
4.Submit the FIU Application for University-wide Scholarship and Application and Eligibility Certification Form for the Sedano’s Family First Generation Scholarship to the FIU University-Wide Scholarship Committee via the my.FIU.edu student portal by the specified deadline.
